DMITRY MARKOV: THE PHENOMENON OF THE RUSSIAN DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY IN THE EPOCH OF WELL-DEVELOPED VISUAL SOCIAL NETWORKS

Abstract

In the paper, the researcher focused on the art of Dmitry Markov (1982–2024), the internationally recognized Russian documentary photographer of the 2010–2020s. The author traced the main stages of the development of his work and compared it with the most prominent representatives of documentary photography of the USSR and new Russia. The researcher considered childhood in Markov’s photography as the leading theme of creativity. She revealed connections with documentary photography development and social changes in society. The author paid particular attention to the specifics of the phenomenon of Markov’s work as a phenomenon of the epoch of well-developed global social visual networks.
