About the Journal

The Art Innovation journal publishes results of academic studies in art history spanning from the 1860s up to the present day. Each issue contains an essay, interview, portfolio, or translation, which covers the major issues of contemporary art.

Art Innovation features established theories in the analysis of art, as well as an interdisciplinary approach. Special attention is paid to poststructuralist and gender theory, psychoanalysis and sociology, and new ideas from the field of metamodernism and ecological studies. These provide instruments to study art formed by technological development, postcolonial policies, demographic transition, information and digital revolutions.

Art Innovation focuses on the variety of contemporary art. The journal documents all curatorial and art strategies: from the impressionist movement, which reflected new conditions and zeitgeist in the context of industrial society, — to the virtual art.

Contemporary art is diverse and has huge transformative power, which demands effective use and comprehension. In Art Innovation, the contributors consider the main trends and local movements of the last 150 years of art. The objective of the journal is to develop international expert dialogue, which enables productive study of contemporary art.

Peer review

Since your manuscript conforms with Art Innovation’s requirements (aligns with the journal subject area and manuscript requirements, and demonstrates the absence of plagiarism), it is reviewed by the members of the editorial board that have PhD or higher Doctorate degree. The review process is anonymous (double-blind). The editor-in-chief checks all the reports, translations, presentations, portfolios, and interviews. The motivated refusal is sent to the author in case Art Innovation cannot publish the manuscript.

You should expect the answer within one month.

Main assessment criteria:

The studies

  • report original scientific research (the main results and conclusions must not have been published or submitted elsewhere), show absence of (self)plagiarism;
  • are of scientific importance;
  • use relevant methodology;
  • reach a conclusion of interest to an interdisciplinary readership;
  • are theoretically and practically applicable;
  • have clear structure;
  • present compelling conclusions;
  • report information in understandable terms and clear language;
  • cover the wide range of related literature including the newest published international works;
  • have correct citations.

If the review is negative, Art Innovation does not publish the manuscript. The author receives a letter of denial. If possible, the referee sends comments on how to improve the article. Then the article undergoes the second review provided the author made the necessary changes. The author can have a copy of the anonymous review.
