Abstract

The article is about regional museum projects, i.e., the projects related to the expansion of museum activity beyond the territory of the main museum complex. The goal of the investigation was to analyze and characterize the main traits of the regional development strategies of major Russian art museums. In particular, the strategies of The State Hermitage Museum, The State Tretyakov Gallery, The State Russian Museum, and The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts are studied. The author analyzed the experience of these museums using a variety of literature and resources, including scientific articles, official websites of institutions, interviews of their current workers, etc. Having thoroughly distinguished the core elements of the strategies under investigation, the author concluded that regional museum projects in Russia are notable for their considerable diversity. Consequently, this fact also reflects the excellence of museum activity in creating regional projects in Russia. All things considered, the author proposed that this activity flourishes in Russia nowadays. This study is useful from both scientific and practical points of view, by compensating for the lack of undertaken studies on this theme and giving new valuable practical information for museum specialists.
