Abstract

In the article, the researcher investigated the problem of deconstruction in Salvador Dali’ s works. The author considered deconstructivist strategies in the paintings of the Spanish artist in the context of similar phenomena in Western European art of the sixteenth – eighteenth centuries. The focus of the study was on the master’s work The Slave Market with the Disappearing Bust of Voltaire (1940) and the comparative characteristics of the artistic strategies of Salvador Dali and Jean-Antoine Houdon. The author concluded that Dali’s projects largely pursued research, art history aims and contributed to the formation of a new concept of classical art. The Spanish artist created a critical interpretation of the problem of the classics, in many ways anticipating modern approaches to this issue. The problems of the convergence of classical and contemporary art, as well as avant-garde and postmodernism, touched upon by Dali, make it possible to see in a new light the theory of deconstruction itself.
